Two teams featuring Xponents that participated in DEF CON 32, which took place from 8 to 11 Aug 2024 at the Las Vegas Convention Centre in the United States, walked away from the prestigious event with their heads held high following impressive finishes in their respective Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions.

DEF CON 32 is widely regarded as the largest hacking and security conference in the world.

The Adversary Village CTF Team, which comprised four Xponents, finished third out of 75 teams.

The Red Team Village CTF Team, which was made up of two Xponents and representatives from Singapore-headquartered Ensign InfoSecurity, finished fifth out of 85 teams.

In the field of cybersecurity, CTF competitions are designed to test how well contestants can exploit vulnerabilities in a system to capture pieces of information.

“Cybersecurity is a team sport, and I’m so grateful for my incredible team in this Capture the Flag competition. We couldn’t have done it without each other," said Jerry Tan, the lead engineer of adversary emulation at HTX’s xCyber Centre of Expertise (CoE) who was part of the Red Team Village team.

Jerry’s colleague Ng Kok Wah, who was part of the Adversary Village CTF Team, had the exact same sentiments.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my teammates, the support team, the organising committee, and HTX for the invaluable opportunity to participate in this CTF. As the common saying goes: teamwork makes the dream work!" said Kok Wah.

Accompanying the contingent was HTX's Deputy Chief Executive (Development) Ng Yeow Boon, who participated in the DEF CON 32 Policy Village panel discussion and shared the efforts HTX has been making to safeguard the cybersecurity of Singapore and the Home Team.

HTX was the sponsor of several DEF CON villages that support causes relevant to homeland security.
