Two HTX innovations that could make immigration procedures in Singapore even more seamless than they already are today picked up the Merit Award at the Science, Technology, and Engineering Innovation Challenge (STE IC) on 28 August 2024.

Both innovations are by HTX’s Biometrics & Profiling Centre of Expertise (B&P CoE) and are related to next-gen biometric capabilities.

One of them is Project eXtramural, a Biometrics Self-Enrolment Kiosk developed in-house by B&P CoE. The kiosk would allow members of the public to enrol their biometrics (rolled fingerprints, faces, and irises) via automated self-help touchpoints with minimal operator intervention, thus reducing waiting and enrolment times.

The other is Project eXorbital, which aims to create a seamless “Walk-Look-Clear” biometric identification process. The Identification On The Move (IOTM) prototype conceptualised by the team allows biometric features to be captured even when an individual is walking.

“This award is a testament of B&P CoE’s commitment to innovation. The journey of exploration was not easy but definitely very fulfilling. The team will continue to innovate game-changing technological solutions that keep Singapore safe and secure,” said Melvin Low, B&P CoE’s Deputy Director (Biometrics).

STE IC, which was organised by the Public Sector Science & Technology Policy and Plans Office (S&TPPO), was aimed at igniting innovation in Singapore’s public sector.

The awards ceremony for STE IC was held at the Public Service Science, Technology & Engineering Conference (STEC) 2024. The B&P CoE team received the Merit Award from Minister for Education Chan Chun Sing, who was the guest of honour at STEC 2024.
