[FEATURED NEWS] Exploring new frontiers: HTX Convention 2024

Xponents embarked on an immersive journey across the stars, reflected on their remarkable achievements back on Earth, and caught a glimpse of what the AI-powered future holds at the HTX Convention 2024.

Catch the best moments from the HTX Convention!

The second annual HTX Convention was anything but ordinary as more than 1,400 Xponents were whisked away on an allegorical interstellar voyage, during which they were given the monumental task of helping Space Ranger X restore cosmic stability!

You might recognise X, HTX’s mascot, from Instagram and TikTok. But recently, he has gone beyond his mission of securing homeland security to ensuring galactic stability. (Photo: HTX)

How did our Xponents go about saving the universe? With magic clappers, of course.

Before embarking on their mission, Xponents were handed ‘magical’ clappers. These clappers were not just for cheering X on throughout his mission – they also served as magic wands that unleashed their planet-saving power when waved by Xponents. (Photo: HTX)

Each clapper came in a colour that represents one of HTX’s values—blue for teamwork, pink for empathy, yellow for exuberance, green for foresight, and purple for innovation.

Xponents were not alone on this journey. HTX’s Value Ambassadors, each representing one of HTX’s values, led Xponents in raising their clappers to support X’s mission! (Photo: HTX)

As Xponents traversed the galaxy, the Mediacorp theatre came alive and fully immersed them in X’s mission.

The confetti here was not just for celebratory purposes, although Xponents did manage to ‘save’ a planet from the brink of collapse. On this planet, all the rivers and seas had run dry. Xponents hence lifted their magical clappers to help the aliens brainstorm a solution to their woes. Through their innovative solution, water burst through the planet’s scorched riverbeds and streams, just like how confetti came raining down from the theatre’s ceiling! (Photo: HTX)

You might have noticed that one of our Values Ambassadors looked a little strange. The actual Value Ambassador for Innovation, Lydia, could not make it to the Convention. However, in the true spirit of teamwork, her colleague Arka stepped up to represent her, donning a larger-than-life cutout mask! (Photo: HTX)

In his opening remarks, Chief Executive Chan Tsan reflected on HTX’s five-year journey and remarked that while HTX might be considered a young organisation in the science and tech world, its success—from organising international prestigious conferences like Milipol Asia-Pacific – TechX Summit 2024 to developing cutting-edge technologies to force multiply the Home Team—was largely due to Xponents’ exuberance, foresight, innovation, empathy, and teamwork.

Despite being a newcomer, HTX has left an indelible mark in the local and global homeland security community. (Photo: HTX)

Other than reflecting on the past, Chief Executive Chan Tsan also laid out HTX’s plans for the future—namely, the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-First strategy.

Tired of doing mundane tasks when you could be doing more interesting and important things? Well, AI could be your perfect ‘partner’ in the workplace. (Photo: HTX)

While Chief Executive Chan Tsan gave a teaser on HTX’s AI-First strategy, Assistant Chief Executive (Digital and Enterprise) Ang Chee Wee elaborated on what becoming an AI-First organisation entails during a fireside chat with Deputy Director (Content & Media) of Strategic Communications, Christopher Lim.

Spoiler alert: becoming an AI-First organisation doesn’t mean using ChatGPT to perform tedious tasks.

From the ‘AI Winter’ of the 1960s-1990s to ChatGPT, AI has come a long way. With AI becoming more and more intelligent, a new world of opportunities is ripe for the taking as long as organisations are willing to harness its power. That is why the AI-First strategy revolves around building HTX’s AI R&D capabilities and training Xponents on how to better harness AI in their respective job functions. Whether you work directly with robots or if you are in corporate, there is a way for AI to assist you! (Photo: HTX)

With all the buzz surrounding AI R&D, you might be wondering what it takes to create the latest groundbreaking AI tool. Well, as Chief Innovation Officer Pan Yong shared, the secret to innovation is something many of us fear—failure.

Chief Innovation Officer Ng Pan Yong explains that, for our ancestors, failing to hunt could mean starving to death. While failure no longer has such devastating consequences for us, we still have a deep-seated fear of failing. However, this fear of failure and ‘playing safe’ is holding us back, as failure is the greatest source of innovation. (Photo: HTX)

How do you learn from failure? Well, you have to reframe the way you think about failing. Rather than immediately going into panic mode upon failing, it is important to take a step back and think about why you failed. These failures can then serve as stepping stones for new innovations! Indeed, failure is often the best teacher. Just ask the recipients of the ‘Undaunted Award’ at the HTX Awards Ceremony! For these Xponents, each setback was a lesson that helped them further refine their innovative projects.

Unlike most award ceremonies, the HTX Awards were not solely focused on Xponents’ successes. (Photo: HTX)

The HTX Convention was also an opportunity for Xponents to connect and catch up with colleagues stationed outside of headquarters.

But wouldn’t it be great if there was a way for Xponents to always stay connected to one another, regardless of distance? This is where the new Hi-5 system comes in, just in time to celebrate HTX’s fifth anniversary this November! As its name suggests, the Hi-5 system lets you give your colleagues a high-five no matter where they are stationed.

What better way to unveil the new Hi-5 system than with a chain clap across the stage? The team behind the new Hi-5 system delivered a series of high fives all the way to Chief Executive Chan Tsan, who then performed the first ever Hi-5! As you can see, whenever the plush hand on the system is high fived, the system’s Hi-5 count will update in real-time, showing you just how much your fellow Xponents are cheering you on!
