Fifty-eight Xponents were among over 300 Home Team officers whose promotions to senior ranks were celebrated at the Home Team Promotion Ceremony 2025, which was held at Orchard Hotel on 17 April.

The event recognised officer promotions to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel or Superintendent and above, and equivalent grades in the Volunteer Special Constabulary (VSC), Civil Defence Auxiliary Unit (CDAU) and civilian schemes of service.

The spirit of honour and unity shone through as the ceremony kicked off with a “heroes cheer”, getting the crowd going for the night. Following this, guest of honour Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, gave a speech and rallied Home Team officers to redouble their efforts to keep Singapore safe and secure.

He noted that geopolitical climate could impact national security, and that it is imperative officers are cognisant of this if they are to tackle the resulting challenges effectively.

“That's why it's even more important at this point, that we maintain our professionalism, our strong values have to come in to help us, and our unity as one. In times like this, good leadership is even more important,” he said.

“The world is not always as we like it, and we are successful as a Home Team, as Singapore, because we don't sit and try and say, ‘Why has the world changed?’ nor do we know the changes,” he added.

“We look at it squarely, and then we say, ‘Okay how do we deal with it?’ And sometimes that means acknowledging that dark clouds are there. There is rain, but we will deal with it.”

Among the Xponents acknowledged at the ceremony was Cheng Wee Kiang, Director of HTX’s Plans and Strategy.

His role? Ensuring HTX’s plans are well-resourced and completed smoothly.

“Each team’s plan comes with its own set of challenges, and my role is to support them in achieving their goals as smoothly as possible. This job also allows me to see the gaps and areas for improvement across different departments,” Wee Kiang explained.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to do my part and contribute to the Home Team.”

Another Xponent at the ceremony, Ansley Jones Goh, Head of the equipment maintenance branch in HTX’s Platform Systems’ Specialised Systems unit, said that his promotion could not have been achieved alone.

“Whilst I’m the one receiving the promotion, it encapsulates all the sweat and effort my team and partners have pooled together to make our work count. For this, I’m grateful,” he said.

This year’s ceremony also hit closer to home as it was organised by HTX’s Strategic Communications and Human Resources Divisions. With the quintessential HTX exuberance, the organisers ensured that the evening was filled with merry and entertainment.
