  • HTX plays a key behind-the-scenes role at the Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix, supporting the Home Team in bolstering public safety.
  • HTX teams begin preparing months before race weekend, working across multiple stakeholders to carry out operational planning and maintenance work.
  • HTX’s support spans land and sea, ensuring everything from Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems to vehicle barriers run reliably during the event.

While blistering-hot engines thunder to life and motorheads brace themselves for a white-knuckle ride at this year’s Formula 1 (F1) Singapore Grand Prix, another high-stakes operation unfolds beyond the paddocks.

Each year, teams of Xponents are mobilised to ensure that vital public safety systems and operational equipment deployed by the Home Team run reliably.

This heavy lift is borne by HTX’s Sustainment Centres (SCs), which work to prevent disruptions that could be caused by security incidents, power outages and infrastructural damage triggered by severe weather events.

For instance, Xponents from Platform Systems set up Mobile Crash Barriers (MCBs) to protect against vehicular terrorist attacks while a team from Marine Systems ensure that the vessels needed to patrol our waterways are in tip-top condition.

For many of our Xponents, F1-related work begins months ahead of the race.

“While the public sees the officers on the ground, plenty of work also takes place behind the scenes,” said Winston Siow, Head (Policing Operations) Ops Systems SC, whose team works closely with other HTX support teams such as the ICT Infrastructure SC to plan, deploy and sustain the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) infrastructure and operational systems supporting the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

“By keeping mission-critical systems resilient and operational throughout the race weekend, we enable SPF to deliver safe, secure and effective policing operations," he added.
