The Forensics Centre of Expertise (CoE) is leading a global shift in forensic science. Our mission extends beyond solving crimes: we harness innovative technology to revolutionise investigations, enhance public safety, and keep Singapore ahead of an evolving threat landscape.

WHAT WE DO

We bridge the gap between science and public safety. Our multidisciplinary team tackles the Home Team’s toughest challenges by deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) and next-generation strategies. Through global partnerships and relentless innovation, we are raising the standard of forensic excellence. We shape policies and standards, advise MHA on science-led decisions, and advance thought leadership in forensic and public safety innovation.

Visualising the Future of Crime Scenes

Speed and precision are critical in modern investigations. We are moving beyond traditional methods by integrating AI, Augmented Reality, and hyperspectral imaging into scene processing. By "seeing" what the naked eye cannot, we empower frontline officers to make faster, smarter decisions and reconstruct events with unprecedented accuracy.

Advanced Identification & Attribution

When evidence is limited or degraded, traditional forensics can hit a wall. We break through that wall. By pioneering techniques such as airborne DNA analysis, proteomics, and advanced pattern analysis, we can identify suspects from the faintest traces. We ensure that even in the most challenging conditions, the evidence speaks.

Safeguarding New Energies

As electric vehicles and energy storage systems become central to Singapore’s dense urban landscape, fire safety is paramount. We lead critical research into battery fire dynamics and new energy risks. Our goal is clear: develop systems for early detection and suppression to prevent catastrophic events and protect our national infrastructure.

Combating the Drug Threat

To stay ahead of drug trafficking, we must out-innovate it. We are developing wearable sensors for continuous monitoring and neuropharmacological tests to detect psychoactive effects. This delivers prompt, actionable data for early intervention.

We also operate the Forensic Innovation and Research for Strategic Transformation (FIRST) Lab, a national facility dedicated to unmasking New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) designed to evade the law.
